Coder I - Same Day Surgery

Powers Health

Responsible for accurately assigning ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for outpatient same-day surgery encounters in accordance with official coding guidelines, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements.

This role supports appropriate reimbursement and contributes to compliance, quality reporting, and data integrity for Powers Health hospitals.

Schedule: Alternating weekly schedule, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM during training, with flexible hours after training.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Technology or Health Information Management preferred
  • Active AHIMA RHIT or RHIA credential preferred; recent graduates of an accredited HIT/HIM program may be considered
  • CCS certification with 2 years of coding experience in a hospital medical record setting may be considered
  • Previous outpatient coding experience preferred
  • Coursework in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and official coding guidelines
  • Knowledge of Medicare medical necessity regulations, ABN, NCCI, OCE, and modifier usage preferred
  • Knowledge of injection and infusion coding preferred
  • Detail-oriented with strong multitasking, organization, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and complete assignments accurately and on time
  • Strong critical thinking, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and SharePoint
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
