HIM Coder - Outpatient

Rush University Medical Center

Accurately and independently makes decisions based on specialized knowledge and standard protocol, including coding inpatient and outpatient records. This role supports Rush's mission, vision, and values while following all Rush policies and procedures.

Responsibilities include assigning ICD-10-CM-PCS and/or CPT-4 diagnostic and procedure codes to patient charts, abstracting selected data items into 3M encoder/Epic software, completing UHDDS data abstraction as required, maintaining a log of work performed, and completing other assigned duties as directed by management.

Requirements & Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

RHIA, RHIT, and/or CCS certification required.

Minimum 3 years of experience in medical record coding required.

Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology required.

Proficiency with Windows applications, Outlook, WebEx, and other software applications as needed.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to work well with others.

Ability to concentrate independently in an open, distracting environment and minimize distractions in a private work-from-home space.

Ability to apply local, state, and federal coding guidelines.
