Responsible for assigning diagnostic and procedure codes to discharged patient records and forwarding reports as required. Performs additional duties as directed by the HIM Director.
Key duties include coding inpatient and/or outpatient records, entering abstract data into the computer, supporting the electronic health record, communicating with other departments regarding reports and charges, verifying scanned image quality, completing release of information requests, participating in educational programs, and assisting with birth certificate completion as needed.
Qualifications
- Previous directly related training and experience preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Coding certification required
- RHIT certification preferred but not required
- Must be attending classes to obtain RHIT in the future
- Ability to code using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT
- Knowledge of LCDs, NCDs, NCCI edits, and MUEs
