Banner Health is seeking a motivated, experienced Podiatry Surgery Complex Coder to join its Coding Ambulatory team. This is a fully remote role supporting complex and multispecialty surgical, procedural, and E&M professional services coding.
The role evaluates medical records, performs clinical and surgical abstraction, assigns accurate ICD-CM and CPT-4 codes, addresses NCCI edits, and supports charge reconciliation and compliance efforts. The schedule is flexible, with any 8-hour period between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. generally acceptable, with production being the primary emphasis.
The position is part of Banner Health Corporate and supports accurate reimbursement, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance across assigned records.
Required qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge with specialized formal training in medical record keeping, anatomy, physiology, pathology, medical terminology, nomenclature, and diagnosis/procedure classification, or an associate degree in a related healthcare field
- Active certification in at least one of the following: CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT
- 3 or more years of complex professional coding experience within the specialty
- Strong knowledge of ICD and CPT coding principles
- Ability to work effectively in a remote setting using office programs, coding software, and abstracting systems
Preferred qualifications
- Specialty certification
- RCC certification if working in the Imaging space
- Experience in a large, multi-system physician practice
- Podiatry and/or orthopedic surgery coding experience preferred
