Lead Inpatient Coder position within the COH-Him Facility Based Coding department.
This role supports a healthcare organization by delivering accurate inpatient coding, assisting management with daily coding activities, supporting department priorities and initiatives, precepting new staff, suggesting workflow improvements, resolving billing edits, and testing EHR updates.
The position also collaborates with coding staff, CDI, and quality reviewers to help ensure accurate coding and timely completion. Acts as a lead resource for coding questions, remote onboarding training, education, quality and productivity guidelines, and workflow support. Also serves as a lead with ancillary departments to resolve coding and operations issues.
10 years of inpatient medical records coding experience.
Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to recognize, anticipate, and resolve operational and process issues.
Strong analytical thinking skills with the ability to identify root causes and develop effective solutions.
Effective communication skills for clearly transmitting and interpreting information.
Knowledge of medical information coding and the ability to translate clinical documentation into standard diagnosis and procedure codes used for reimbursement, clinical assessment, research, and public health.
Knowledge of industry trends, regulatory considerations, and organizational standards.
Initiative and self-motivation to seek out work and accomplish goals.
Knowledge of health information concepts and terminology, including anatomy, physiology, medical disciplines, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, legal/data standards, statistics, data quality management, and computer systems.
One of the following credentials required: RHIA, RHIT, CPC, or CCS.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, Business Administration, Health Administration, or related field.
