Seeking a detail-oriented Medical Biller/Coder to join a healthcare administrative team. This role is responsible for translating medical records into standardized codes, managing billing processes, submitting insurance claims, and supporting timely reimbursement from third-party payers. The position plays an important part in revenue cycle management and maintaining the financial health of the organization.
Responsibilities include:
- Review medical records and assign ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and DRG codes in accordance with current coding guidelines.
- Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using billing software and EHR systems.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and resolve discrepancies.
- Ensure compliance with health insurance policies, billing requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain organized billing and coding records for audit purposes.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and ensure accurate coding for inpatient and outpatient services.
- Stay current with coding standard updates and implement necessary billing adjustments.
- Support the full billing process from patient registration through final payment.
Requirements & Qualifications
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED.
- Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting.
- At least 3 years of medical billing/coding experience.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, DRG classifications, and medical terminology.
- Familiarity with billing software and EMR/EHR systems.
- Understanding of health insurance claim processing, third-party billing practices, and revenue cycle management.
- Ability to accurately interpret medical records and follow coding guidelines for inpatient services.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of medical collection procedures and insurance follow-up processes.
- Prior medical office experience preferred.
- Excellent communication skills and computer proficiency.
- Ability to think logically, troubleshoot problems effectively, and communicate openly with physicians, staff, and customers.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Certified Professional Coder required.
- Medical Billing Certification required.
