Medical Coder

SOUTHWEST UTAH COMMUNITY HEALTH CT

Responsible for reviewing clinical documentation and assigning accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for services rendered across all clinic sites.

Ensures coding accuracy, compliance with federal and payer-specific regulations, and support for timely, clean claim submission within eClinicalWorks (eCW).

Plays a key role in minimizing denials, protecting revenue integrity, and supporting the organization's FQHC compliance and reporting requirements, including UDS and Section 330 obligations where applicable.

Requirements & Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred
  • Active medical coding certification required: CPC (AAPC), CCS (AHIMA), or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of professional medical coding experience, preferably in a primary care, multi-specialty, or FQHC/community health center setting
  • Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
  • Experience with electronic health record and practice management systems, with eClinicalWorks strongly preferred
  • Understanding of payer billing requirements, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret clinical documentation accurately

Preferred

  • Experience coding within an FQHC or Rule of Threes/PPS encounter environment
  • Familiarity with 340B program documentation requirements
  • Experience with TriZetto clearinghouse or similar claims clearinghouse platforms
  • Knowledge of behavioral health and/or dental coding
