Assign complex inpatient DRG encounters according to established regulatory guidelines, industry best practices, and Infirmary Health policies and procedures. May also assign codes for outpatient surgery and observation encounters as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- 3 years of coding experience in an acute care facility
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding conventions
- Knowledge of CMS coding requirements
- Computer proficiency, including the ability to research coding questions and use educational resources
Licensure, Registration, or Certification
- One of the following credentials:
- RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician)
- RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator)
- CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)
- CIC (Certified Inpatient Coder)
- Associate's degree preferred
- CCS certification desired
