Physician Coder I

Responsible for accurate coding and billing of inpatient and outpatient professional services using documentation from the medical record. Applies current CPT, ICD, and specialty coding systems in accordance with AHA, CMS, and organizational coding guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and audit documentation to verify the type and level of professional services rendered using Evaluation and Management guidelines and CPT coding rules.
• Query providers and/or appropriate staff when documentation is missing, unclear, inadequate, or ambiguous.
• Summarize audit findings and assist in provider education on coding and documentation requirements.
• Assign CPT codes for procedures performed on and off campus, including appropriate CPT modifiers for atypical services.
• Attend meetings and educational conferences to maintain coding credentials and support ongoing professional development.
• Follow all institutional, departmental, and regulatory policies and safety procedures.

Work Setting

• Fully remote position
• Candidates must reside in Colorado
• Minimal local travel may be required
• Full-time day shift, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
