Cottage Health is seeking a HIM Coder II for the Health Information Management department.
The role is responsible for coding and abstracting inpatient and outpatient conditions, diseases, reasons for encounters, social determinants of health, and PCS/CPT procedures to ensure accurate administrative and clinical data. The position applies approved coding guidelines, assigns appropriate DRG/APC prospective payment systems and classifications, and supports accurate severity and illness reporting for inpatient and specialty outpatient encounters.
The coder collaborates closely with clinicians and CDI staff, including inpatient rehab coordinators as needed, to obtain appropriate documentation. The position also assists with internal coding audit and training activities.
Qualifications
- Formalized education providing knowledge and experience in:
- Assigning ICD-9-CM and CPT coding classifications in an acute care setting
- UHDDS reporting requirements
- Medical terminology, anatomy, chemistry, pharmacology, physiology, and disease processes
- Associate degree in Health Information Management preferred
- CSS required
- CCS and RHIT or RHIA preferred
- 5 years of related work experience required; 7 years preferred
