OSF HealthCare is seeking a Coder to assign accurate ICD-CM/PCS and CPT/HCPCS codes to diagnoses and procedures for introductory and moderate-complexity coding assignments. The role also abstracts required information for statistical and reimbursement purposes and works closely with the revenue cycle team to support appropriate billing and reimbursement.
This position is located in Bloomington, IL and follows a Monday-Friday schedule from 8:00am-4:30pm, with a negotiable start time.
Requirements & Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of an AAPC or AHIMA approved coding certificate program
- One of the following certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CCA, CPC, CPC-A, or CPC-H
- Or RHIA/RHIT eligibility with attainment within 1 year of hire
- Completed medical coding coursework focused on ICD-CM/PCS and CPT coding guidelines
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, disease processes, medical records, and hospital procedures
- Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft software and basic computer skills
- Ability to work with attention to detail and concentration over extended periods
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, written communication, and email
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of professional or hospital coding experience
- Candidates in Illinois or Michigan with inpatient coding experience or completed PCS procedure coding training are encouraged to apply
