Experienced inpatient professional fee coder needed to support accurate reimbursement, documentation integrity, regulatory compliance, and revenue cycle performance for UVA Health.

This role focuses on complex inpatient physician services in an academic teaching hospital environment. The position includes professional fee coding, quality review, coding audits, and provider education. You will work remotely while collaborating with multidisciplinary physician and operational teams across multiple specialties.

Typical work includes coding inpatient physician services such as admissions, consultations, critical care, and bedside procedures; applying CPT and ICD code selection guidelines; identifying documentation opportunities; and supporting coding compliance and quality initiatives.

The role also involves working with highly specialized inpatient encounters in advanced academic medicine settings, including ICU and specialty programs.

Requirements & Qualifications

Minimum requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of relevant coding experience
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required

Preferred experience

  • Inpatient professional fee (Profee) coding experience
  • Academic medical center or teaching hospital experience
  • Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD, modifiers, NCCI edits, split/shared services, resident billing, APP billing, and diagnostic specificity requirements
  • Ability to manage complex inpatient encounters with consistent productivity and accuracy
  • Experience supporting coding audits, education, and compliance activities
