Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Revenue Cycle – Revenue Recovery, the Medical Billing and Payment Specialist is responsible for accurately and timely posting insurance payments, contractual adjustments, and denials through electronic remit stations and/or manual posting methods.
The role focuses on payment posting, resolving payment-related edits, researching unidentified payments and recoupments, balancing batches, and maintaining accurate payment records in the practice management system.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma preferred
- Two years of medical billing and collection experience
- Working knowledge of EOBs, EFTs, and ERAs
- Knowledge of managed care contracts, Medicare, Medicaid, workers' compensation, and private insurance carriers
- Excellent attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a team
- Ability to work independently with a high degree of self-initiative
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
- Understanding of medical terminology
- Knowledge of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations
- Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding
- Knowledge of medical billing and collection practices
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR/EMR) or other healthcare computer systems
- Strong prioritization and time-management skills
