Serves in a professional capacity as a patient account representative in the Patient Financial Services (PFS) department at Glenwood Medical Associates. Demonstrates strong communication and people skills with both internal and external customers. Maintains professionalism when handling interdepartmental issues and places the customer first. Works directly and courteously with patients by providing information and explanation of billed clinical services and collection proceedings. Performs assigned functions based on instructions and pre-established guidelines.
Duties and responsibilities
- Work with patients in a friendly and effective manner on billing and collection issues
- Assist with training other PFS staff
- Work and complete aged reports by claim center, unapplied reports, and refunds
- Enter payments for various physicians and nurse practitioner receipts
- Respond to insurance correspondence and file courtesy insurance claims
- Handle return checks and credit card payments
- File MVA and PIP claims
- Handle insurance and patient payment posting
- Work bankruptcy notices
- Set up budget accounts
- Utilize collection module when dealing with collection accounts
- Proof and mail 1500s for paper claims when necessary
- Appeal claims that are incorrectly processed or reduced
- Submit attorney charges and post payments
- Attend educational classes when necessary to enhance knowledge base
- Complete bad address and missing encounter reports
- Travel between offices as requested
Qualifications
- Previous medical office experience preferred
- Knowledge of debits and credits preferred
- Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding a plus
- Basic computer skills required
- Some collection experience preferred
- Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure
