Duties
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT, and DRG codes in accordance with medical coding guidelines.
- Prepare and submit insurance claims using advanced billing software, ensuring accuracy and compliance with health insurance policies.
- Manage electronic health record (EHR) systems for billing and coding, maintaining up-to-date medical records and documentation.
- Verify patient insurance coverage, process third-party claims, and follow up on unpaid or denied claims to optimize revenue recovery.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses or procedures when necessary for accurate coding.
- Ensure adherence to medical terminology standards and maintain compliance with healthcare regulations related to medical records and billing practices.
- Support revenue cycle management by tracking claim status, resolving discrepancies, and facilitating timely payments.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical office settings with a strong understanding of medical terminology, records management, and billing procedures.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR (Aprima) system billing software, and electronic health record management for billing and coding purposes.
- Knowledge of health insurance claim processing, third-party billing, and revenue cycle management best practices.
- Familiarity with ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT coding systems, including coding for inpatient services and DRGs.
- Strong understanding of medical coding guidelines for accurate diagnosis (ICD) and procedure (CPT) coding.
- Ability to interpret medical records accurately while adhering to compliance standards related to medical coding and billing.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Billing and coding experience: 2 years required.
- AAPC CPC certification or AHIMA equivalent certification required.
- Spanish preferred.
