Inpatient Coding Auditor

Huron supports healthcare organizations by improving operations, clinical outcomes, and consumer experiences. The Inpatient Coding Auditor is responsible for auditing inpatient coders and offshore coding auditors to ensure coding and DRG accuracy standards are met.

This role works with client teams and payers, performs quality and calibration audits, and helps identify opportunities to improve documentation, coding accuracy, and reimbursement integrity.

Requirements & Qualifications

Key responsibilities

  • Audit inpatient coders and offshore inpatient coding auditors to ensure coding accuracy and DRG accuracy of at least 95%
  • Perform quality checks on coded visits according to client SOPs
  • Conduct calibration audits and support improvement actions with offshore counterparts and leaders
  • Prepare audit reports and provide feedback to coders and auditors
  • Review inpatient documentation to support diagnosis and procedure coding, MS-DRG, APR DRG, POA, SOI, and ROM assignments
  • Identify coding errors, compliance issues, HACs, PSIs, and other quality or reimbursement impacts
  • Query physicians, CDS staff, and other providers when documentation is unclear or conflicting
  • Maintain knowledge of coding guidelines, reimbursement rules, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience as an inpatient coding auditor
  • 3+ years of experience coding inpatient hospital accounts
  • Current permanent U.S. work authorization required
  • Ability to work U.S. day shift hours
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Independent judgment and decision-making ability
  • Experience with revenue cycle systems and financial analysis preferred
  • Encoder experience preferred
  • Epic, Cerner, and Meditech experience preferred
  • Required certification: CCS, CIC, or CDIP
  • Preferred: AHIMA AIC microcredential and RHIA
