This role evaluates medical records, creates clinical abstracts, and assigns accurate diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with nationally recognized coding guidelines. The coder analyzes medical information, consults with providers to resolve missing or incomplete documentation, abstracts relevant data into the electronic medical record, and supports compliance with coding rules and regulatory requirements.
The position also includes quality assurance responsibilities and the preparation of daily and monthly reports for research or analysis as assigned.
Must hold or prefer one of the following credentials in active status: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or CCS-P.
- 1–2 years of experience coding surgery cases in a hospital or ASC setting
- Strong knowledge of ICD and CPT coding principles
- Ability to code ICD, CPT4, MS-DRGs, APCs, POAs, and reconcile charges accurately
- Experience or education related to ASC coding preferred
- Orthopedic, spine, or urology coding experience preferred
- Ability to work independently under regular supervision
- Familiarity with coding guidelines and LCDs is helpful
