Assign diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10 diagnosis codes and professional CPT codes.
Ensure codes are current, accurate, and sequenced correctly.
Communicate with providers and clinical staff when documentation is insufficient or unclear.
Research information when coding is complex or unusual.
Stay current with insurance coding and coverage guidelines.
Work with the billing team to assist with denials and documentation requests.
Call insurance companies when needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of ICD-10, professional CPT, and HCPCS codes
- Familiarity with anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
- Excellent typing and 10-key speed and accuracy
- ICD-10 experience preferred: 1 year
