This role supports Yale's coding and billing operations by monitoring the efficiency and accuracy of capturing, coding, and processing billable services. The position helps document, implement, and monitor policies and workflows to improve charge capture, ensure compliance, and support collaboration across clinical departments, revenue cycle services, and compliance teams. The role also serves as an expert resource for coders and may manage staff.
Current CPC certification required.
Knowledge of:
- CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes
- Medical terminology
- HIPAA regulations
- Medical insurance billing procedures
- Third-party reimbursement methodologies
- Documentation and compliance requirements
- Government and commercial insurance rules and regulations related to correct coding initiatives
Experience with:
- Electronic health records
- Practice application systems
- Electronic data entry
- Web-based applications and websites
- MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Additional qualifications:
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to compile and analyze complex data and reports
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration or RN, plus five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Epic experience strongly preferred
