Ophthalmic Scribe (Retina)

Job Summary

The ophthalmic scribe is responsible for accurate documentation, patient interaction, and supporting overall clinic flow. This role helps coordinate practice activities that contribute to the success of the clinic.

Key Responsibilities

• Verify patient information by interviewing patients, recording medical history, and confirming the purpose of the visit.
• Perform patient workups based on chief complaint and patient history.
• Document clinical information accurately in the EMR.
• Protect patient confidentiality and maintain secure medical records.
• Record diagnostic and procedure coding as appropriate.
• Communicate physician instructions, medication use, and surgery-related questions to patients.
• Assist with in-office procedures such as laser surgeries and ocular injections.
• Prepare patients for ophthalmology examinations, including pupil dilation, visual acuity recording, tonometry, and blood pressure checks.
• Conduct and support ophthalmic testing, including visual fields, fluorescein angiography, and OCT.
• Maintain and troubleshoot equipment, keep supplies stocked, and request repairs when needed.
• Follow HIPAA, OSHA, and compliance regulations.
