Facilitate patient intake, obtain identification and required documents, monitor the patient waiting area, answer general inquiries, and update patient demographics. Assist the patient services and processing manager with assigned projects in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities include preparing questionnaires, demographic forms, disclosures, insurance forms, release forms, consent forms, and notices before patient arrival; conducting intake interviews with new or readmitted patients; assisting patients with paperwork; explaining billing policies and fees; reviewing administrative information for accuracy; entering data into the software database; forwarding information to internal departments; ensuring intake paperwork is completed properly; posting notices and revised fees; assisting with billing, insurance, and self-pay information; and maintaining strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
High school diploma or GED required.
Previous experience in a similar work environment preferred.
Basic knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes required.
Strong phone, verbal, and written communication skills with active listening.
Customer-focused with adaptability to different personalities.
Ability to multitask, set priorities, and manage time effectively.
Ability to run a second monitor.
Minimum typing speed of 30 wpm.
Preferred experience:
- 1 to 2 years in customer service
- 1 to 2 years in a patient services department
- 1 to 2 years using medical software or EMR
- Knowledge of HIPAA, scheduling, medical terminology, provider templating, and accepted insurance coverage
