CodeMax Medical Billing is seeking an experienced Substance Abuse Medical Billing Supervisor to lead and support a high-performing revenue cycle management team.
This role focuses on accurate claim submission, timely reimbursement, and compliance with industry and regulatory standards. The supervisor plays a key role in maintaining operational excellence and driving continuous improvement within the billing department.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the team responsible for reviewing patient records and translating services, diagnoses, and equipment into ICD, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
- Oversee preparation and submission of insurance claims, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
- Manage follow-ups on unpaid or denied claims and resolve discrepancies to optimize reimbursement.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and company policies.
- Foster communication among healthcare providers, patients, and insurance companies to resolve billing and coding issues.
- Ensure the team remains up to date on changes in medical billing and coding regulations.
- Implement and monitor KPIs and quality assurance processes to ensure coding accuracy and consistency.
- Provide leadership, training, mentorship, and continuous support to billing and coding team members.
- Develop and execute strategies to improve efficiency and effectiveness across billing operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Proficiency with healthcare billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong knowledge of insurance plans, including commercial, in-network, out-of-network, and government plans, and the full claims lifecycle.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Strong communication and analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Prior leadership or team-management experience in a substance abuse RCM billing or coding environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- AAPC certification preferred.
- Previous experience in medical billing and coding, ideally within a healthcare or hospital environment.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, HIPAA rules, and compliance standards.
- Proven supervisory or managerial experience.
