Inpatient Coding Auditor

Huron is seeking an Inpatient Coding Auditor to audit inpatient coders and offshore inpatient coding auditors to ensure coding accuracy, DRG accuracy, and compliance with coding guidelines. This role supports Huron Managed Services Domestic Coding team and involves frequent communication with client teams and payers.

The auditor will review inpatient records, perform quality checks and calibration audits, identify coding issues, support corrective action, and provide clear findings to leadership. The role also requires use of encoder tools and familiarity with inpatient coding systems, reimbursement rules, and clinical documentation standards.

Requirements & Qualifications

Core qualifications

  • Current permanent United States work authorization
  • Ability to work a U.S. day shift schedule
  • 2+ years of experience as an inpatient coding auditor
  • 3+ years of experience coding inpatient hospital accounts
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio, and SharePoint
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and workflow/process skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow-through
  • Strong time management and ability to prioritize multiple deadlines
  • Ability to use independent judgment, discretion, and decision-making
  • Professional communication skills for internal and external customers
  • Ability to adapt quickly to a client environment and systems
  • Financial acumen and experience working with data from multiple sources preferred
  • Familiarity with revenue cycle systems and financial analysis
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Technical qualifications

  • Required certification: CCS, CIC, or CDIP
  • Preferred: AHIMA AIC microcredential
  • Preferred: RHIA
  • Preferred encoder experience with 3M/Solventum, Encoder Pro, or Codify
  • Preferred experience with Epic, Cerner, or Meditech
