Collections Representative

Optum

Optum Insight is seeking a Collections Representative to support the resolution of complex facility insurance claims in a national remote environment. In this role, you will work with insurance payers to resolve outstanding medical bill accounts, manage appeals for denied claims, reconcile balances, and help secure payment or settlement of accounts.

This is a full-time Monday through Friday position with flexibility required to work any shift within normal business hours of 8:00am - 4:30pm MST. The role includes on-the-job training and may require occasional overtime based on business needs.

Primary responsibilities

  • Handle escalated and complex facility insurance claims to help resolve and settle account balances
  • Contact insurance companies via email, form letters, web portals, and phone calls to discuss, negotiate payment, and resolve outstanding medical bills
  • Send detailed appeals to dispute insurance denials
  • Research claim information across multiple systems and document status, payment expectations, and call notes
  • Reconcile, balance, and pursue account balances and payments
  • Obtain agreement on potential payoff amounts and/or payment terms within authority and guideline limits
  • Prepare and submit reports to internal management for escalation of outstanding medical bills
  • Perform additional duties as needed

Work environment

  • National remote role; telecommuting allowed from anywhere within the U.S.
  • Requires a dedicated private work area and approved high-speed internet connection
Requirements & Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • 1+ years of hospital/facility follow-up collections experience
  • 1+ years of experience managing hospital/facility appeals and denied claims, including using insurance payer portals to investigate, resolve, and secure reimbursement
  • Experience reviewing and reading UB-04 claim forms
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM MST

Preferred qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working in healthcare insurance
  • Experience with Medicaid and Medicaid managed payers
  • Working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT/HCPCS
