Health Information Technician

InterMed, P.A.

The Imaging Health Information Technician provides direct support for the storage and transfer of imaging studies, reports, and imaging-related health information. This role requires strong customer service skills, the ability to manage large volumes of work, and excellent accuracy.

Core responsibilities

  • Acquire pertinent prior images and reports for all modalities in accordance with department and radiologist protocols
  • Monitor daily schedules for add-ons and ensure outside records are imported for review
  • Call patients to obtain healthcare information
  • Initiate requests for reports and prior images and determine urgency to support timely reporting
  • Enter orders into RIS for outside studies received for import into the PACS system
  • Provide updates to administrative leadership regarding delays, difficult cases, and interrupted patient care
  • Communicate with couriers as needed for stat deliveries
  • Use electronic data sharing tools including PACS, web-based record sharing, and CD importing
  • Receive image requests and ensure timely delivery in all imaging formats
  • Serve as the primary contact for missing reports and addendum requests with the contracted radiology group
  • Troubleshoot file room issues, missing studies, and physician requests
  • Provide training in the records management process
  • Act as a resource to other departments
  • Perform additional duties as directed by management
Requirements & Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience

  • Prior medical office experience preferred
  • Medical records experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with EMR/eClinicalWorks, PACS, and RIS systems strongly preferred

Skills

  • Proficiency with Windows-based computer applications
  • Understanding of medical terminology preferred
  • Excellent professional judgment, attention to detail, phone skills, and decision-making ability
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
  • Strong communication skills
