Serves as a Medical Records Technician and receptionist/release of information clerk for the Data Flow Branch, Medical Information Services Division, Patient Administration at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.
Responsible for ensuring complete and accurate medical information is acquired for each discharged or deceased patient. Reviews patient records for completeness, proper sequencing, required signatures, and sufficient documentation of diagnosis, treatment, rendered care, and outcomes. Maintains a weekly list of overdue charts and retrieves inpatient records from the archive system for healthcare professionals to complete deficiencies and for technicians to process coding requirements.
Basic qualification
- One year of specialized experience reviewing and analyzing inpatient records for compliance with established standards
- Use of medical terminology
- Obtaining proper authorization before releasing information from patient records
Alternate qualifications
- Four years of education above high school in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college, or university
- Combination of education and experience may be used if it meets 100% of the requirement

- U.S. citizenship required
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret clearance eligibility
- Background investigation and credit check required
- Pre-employment physical and annual physical required
- Mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination unless exempt
