Medical Records Technician

US Military Treatment Facilities under DHA

Summary

Medical Records Technician (GS-0675-05) position with Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

  • Ensure complete medical information is acquired for each discharged patient cared for by the medical treatment facility.
  • Review patient information on documents to prevent incomplete or inaccurate data.
  • Verify the proper sequence of documents, required reports, signatures, and sufficient documentation of diagnosis, treatment rendered, results obtained, and quality patient care.
  • Maintain a weekly list of overdue charts.
  • Retrieve inpatient records from the medical record archive system for healthcare professionals to complete deficiencies and for technicians to process coding requirements.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination based on a background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
  • Background investigation and credit check required.
  • Mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination required unless exempt for medical or religious reasons.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
  • Pre-employment physical examination and annual examinations required.
  • Mission essential position; may be required to report to work during severe weather or emergencies.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Specialized experience: one year of experience reviewing and analyzing inpatient records for compliance with established standards, using medical terminology, and obtaining proper authorization before releasing patient record information.
  • Or four years of education above the high school level in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college, or university.
  • Or a qualifying combination of education and experience.
  • Resume must clearly describe relevant experience and include employer name, job title, start and end dates, hours worked per week, and a brief description of duties.
  • Transcripts are required if qualifying based on education.
  • A job-related license or certification must be submitted if required for qualification.
