The Trauma Data I Specialist supports the Trauma Center by completing registry tasks related to trauma, burn, and acute care surgery cases.
This role is responsible for data collection, data entry, retrieval, analysis, validation, and reporting for research, performance improvement, injury prevention, education, billing, and outcome measurement purposes. The specialist obtains, abstracts, and reports concurrent and retrospective patient data, maintains registry databases, and applies ICD-10 and AIS coding to injury and diagnosis/procedure data.
The position also supports financial reporting related to trauma activations, maintains data quality and integrity, and works with multiple internal and external sources including EPIC, EMS reports, coroner records, and trauma registry systems.
Associate degree in healthcare, technology, education, health information, or a related field.
Two years or more of trauma registry experience or equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of an associate degree.
Successful completion within 12 months of hire of:
- AIS coding course from AAAM
- American Trauma Society Registrar Course or state-equivalent course approved by the American College of Surgeons
Preferred certifications include:
- CSTR
- CAISS
- CIC
- CCA
- CCS
- RHIT
- RHIA
Minimum 1-2 years of equivalent experience required; 3-5 years preferred.
Must maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
