Patient Access Specialist

Patient Access Specialist at Northwestern Medicine supporting patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and financial clearance functions in a hospital setting. This role works the night shift from 10:00pm to 6:30am and is part of a patient-first team focused on delivering excellent service, maintaining data integrity, and helping patients navigate care efficiently.

Key duties include:

• Greeting and assisting patients while providing a positive first impression
• Collecting and verifying demographic and registration information
• Scheduling and directing patients through hospital systems
• Performing medical necessity checks for scheduled services
• Verifying insurance eligibility, benefit levels, and real-time eligibility
• Collecting authorization numbers and assisting with insurance/referral questions
• Completing out-of-pocket estimates and informing patients of financial concerns
• Using Epic and other online tools to document, verify, and coordinate patient information
• Participating in quality assurance and process improvement activities
• Supporting cross-training and helping train new staff
• Maintaining compliance with HIPAA, departmental policies, and regulatory standards
