Codes medical observation, outpatient, emergency room, and/or ambulatory surgery discharge records for reimbursement, research, and compliance with federal regulations. Assigns diagnoses and invasive and non-invasive procedures using ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 classification systems. Abstracts information needed for statistical data and anesthesia improvement. Provides education to providers regarding correct coding initiatives. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One of the following credentials:
- Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P)
- Certified Obstetrics/Gynecology Coder (COBGC)
- Certified Procedural Coder (CPC)
- Certified Procedural Coder Apprentice (CPC-A)
- College-level Applied Science courses in Anatomy/Physiology and Medical Terminology as required by certifying body
- Two years of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding experience, or related coding courses acceptable to Health Information Management
Preferred Qualifications
- Three years of billing experience
