Works closely with site administration, the CEO, and Medical Staff Leadership to support Medical Staff activities. The role maintains compliance with regulatory requirements related to medical staff credentialing and recredentialing for practitioners with privileges at initial appointment and reappointment. Responsibilities include maintaining the database, assisting with credentialing services, arranging and attending hospital and medical staff committee meetings and regional meetings, providing orientation for new medical staff members, offering executive-level secretarial support for the administrative offices, and participating in professional organizations.
The Medical Staff Office serves internal and external customers including healthcare providers, contract agencies, administration, hospital staff, management, and community members. The department’s primary focus is patient safety through appropriate credentialing and re-credentialing of all privileged providers. It also supports communications and reporting between the medical staff organization and administration, helps facilitate updates to Medical Staff Bylaws and related administrative documents, and ensures compliance with regulatory agency standards and state and federal requirements.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Associate degree in a related field preferred.
Two years of experience in a similar position in a hospital, medical, or credentialing office, and/or providing administrative support required.
Current Certified Professional Medical Staff Manager (CPMSM), Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS), or equivalent credentials recognized by the National Association of Medical Staff Services preferred.
Knowledge and skills required include:
- Medical Staff Services, including bylaws, credentialing activities, and accrediting agency guidelines
- Legal requirements related to Medical Staff activities and reporting, including state and federal laws
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to perform group presentations and explain complex issues clearly
- Quality control, data collection, classification systems, and statistical applications
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and information systems
- Clerical and administrative procedures, file management, and office systems
