This procedure involves scanning glass slides into a digital format, allowing the captured images to be stored either on a local computer server or within a cloud-based archive. The digitization of these slides facilitates further examination by enabling remote pathologists to analyze the images or by utilizing computer algorithms that assist in providing a pathologic diagnosis, which is distinct from traditional direct visualization through a microscope. The process is particularly relevant for cytopathology, where slides are prepared from various samples, such as sputum specimens. Once digitized, these slides can be integrated into an image-based environment for comprehensive management and interpretation. It is important to note that this code is reported separately in addition to the code for the primary procedure performed. For instance, if slide digitization occurs concurrently with screening and interpretation, the appropriate code to report is 0832T. If the sample requires preparation prior to screening and interpretation, the code 0833T should be used. Additionally, when slide digitization is performed alongside slide preparation for an extended study involving five or more slides and/or multiple stains, the code 0834T is applicable.
