1. Indications

• Allergic Rhinitis Symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, and itchy eyes that may indicate an allergy to environmental allergens.
• Urticaria Presence of hives or welts on the skin that may suggest an allergic response to specific substances.
• Asthma Patients with asthma may undergo testing to identify potential allergens that could exacerbate their condition.
• Food Allergies Individuals suspected of having food allergies may be tested to determine specific sensitivities.
• Insect Venom Allergies Testing may be performed for individuals who have experienced severe reactions to insect stings.

2. Procedure

The procedure for conducting percutaneous allergy tests involves several key steps, which are outlined as follows:

• Step 1: Patient Preparation The physician begins by preparing the patient for the test, which includes obtaining a detailed medical history and discussing any potential risks associated with the testing. The skin area where the tests will be performed is typically cleaned to minimize the risk of infection.
• Step 2: Application of Allergenic Substances The physician then applies small amounts of various allergenic substances to the skin, using techniques such as scratching, puncturing, or pricking. Each test substance is introduced in a controlled manner to ensure accurate results.
• Step 3: Observation of Reactions After the application of the allergens, the physician observes the test sites for a specified period, usually around 15 to 20 minutes. During this time, the physician looks for signs of an allergic reaction, such as redness, swelling, or itching.
• Step 4: Interpretation of Results Following the observation period, the physician interprets the results based on the reactions observed at each test site. The degree of reaction is assessed, and the findings are documented for each allergen tested.
