Common Language Description

The CPT® Code 95973 pertains to the electronic analysis of an implanted neurostimulator pulse generator system. This procedure involves a comprehensive evaluation of various parameters associated with the neurostimulator, including the rate of stimulation, pulse amplitude, pulse duration, and the configuration of the waveform. Additionally, it assesses the battery status, electrode selectability, output modulation, cycling, impedance, and measurements related to patient compliance. This code specifically applies to complex neurostimulator systems that are utilized in spinal cord or peripheral nerve applications, excluding cranial nerve systems. The procedure is categorized as an add-on code, indicating that it is billed separately in conjunction with the primary procedure code. The analysis and programming of the neurostimulator pulse generator can occur intraoperatively or during subsequent follow-up visits, with this code specifically representing each additional 30 minutes of programming after the first hour has been completed. This detailed analysis is crucial for ensuring the optimal functioning of the neurostimulator, which plays a significant role in managing various neurological conditions.
