This position is responsible for processing all release of information (ROI) requests accurately and efficiently, safeguarding patient privacy by ensuring only authorized access to medical information in compliance with authorizations, company policy, and HIPAA regulations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Completing ROI requests by retrieving, scanning, and transmitting patient medical charts according to established procedures and quality standards
- Date stamping requests and highlighting pertinent data
- Validating requests and authorizations
- Performing quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and proper invoicing
- Maintaining equipment in excellent condition
- Providing attentive, respectful customer service and proactively addressing client concerns
- Handling incoming requests via mail, phone, and fax as needed
- Keeping a clean, professional appearance and orderly work area
- Maintaining knowledge of state laws and fee structures
- Complying with client policies, HIPAA, state/federal regulations, and labor rules
- Maintaining confidentiality, security, and ethical standards
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma (or GED) required
- Minimum 2 years experience in a medical records or similar setting preferred
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Excellent organizational skills
- Typing speed of 50 words per minute
- Proficiency with fax, copier, and scanning equipment
- Willingness to learn new equipment and processes quickly
- Self-motivated, team-oriented
- Proven customer satisfaction skills
- Ability to multi-task
