This position is responsible for processing all release of information requests in a timely and efficient manner ensuring accuracy and providing customers with the highest quality product and customer service. The associate must at all times safeguard and protect the patient's right to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient's medical information and that all releases of information are in compliance with the request, authorization, company policy and HIPAA regulations.
Responsibilities include completing release of information requests by retrieving patient medical charts and returning charts, scanning medical records accurately and transmitting daily according to requests and established procedures. The role involves date stamping requests, highlighting pertinent data to facilitate processing, validating requests and authorizations, performing quality checks to assure accuracy, confidentiality, and proper invoicing. Maintaining equipment, providing excellent customer service, handling incoming requests including mail, phone, and fax inquiries, maintaining professional appearance and work area, staying knowledgeable of state laws and fee structures, and complying with HIPAA, state/federal regulations, and labor regulations are required. Confidentiality, security, and ethical standards must be maintained at all times while working with privileged information.
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 2 years prior experience in a medical records department or similar setting preferred
- Strong computer software skills, including general working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to type 50 words per minute
- Ability to use fax, copier, scanning machines
