OPS Health Information Specialist

State of Florida

This OPS position works 28 hours per week at the Department of Health in Lee County, Florida. The Health Information Specialist supports medical records activities by performing specialized clerical work requiring independent decision-making. Responsibilities include managing the release of information (ROI), maintaining electronic correspondence and disclosure logs, reviewing consents for release of information, completing third-party audits, scanning Employee Health and Electronic Health Record (EHR) documents, monitoring fax transmissions related to confidential information, analyzing duplicates, participating in closure of inactive medical records, and supporting special projects.

The role requires handling protected health information according to Department of Health Information Security and Privacy Policies and abiding by state and federal laws. Duties may necessitate coverage at multiple locations, including evenings as directed.

The specialist attends required meetings and training to stay current on policies and protocols and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Experience working in office, customer service, or clerical environments
  • Experience with computers and basic office software including email and data entry systems
  • Knowledge of office procedures, communication principles, data collection methods, and basic arithmetic
  • Ability to understand and apply relevant rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and utilize problem-solving techniques
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical ability to frequently bend, kneel, reach, sit or stand for extended periods, and lift/carry up to 50 pounds
