The Electronic Medical Records Specialist ensures the integrity, accessibility, and compliance of patient health records, supporting patient care by driving accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to regulations in Health Information Management (HIM).
Work is onsite at Novant Health facilities in the Charlotte region, Monday to Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm with weekend and holiday rotations.
Responsibilities include discharge unit rounding, quality compliance reviews, prepping, scanning and indexing medical documents into EMR systems (including HIMSS7 unit scanning), providing department phone coverage, ordering medical records from off-site vendors, performing on-site release of information tasks for walk-in requests, continuity of care, and handling incoming mail. The role involves delivering professional customer service within the Health Information Management department, supporting HIM workflows in acute care settings, collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve workflow issues, and adapting to additional HIM responsibilities as needed.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 3+ years of equivalent experience in similar roles or zero years with RHIT or RHIA licensure.
- Ability to travel to multiple locations/facilities.
- Strong analytical and customer service skills.
- Ability to complete skills validation and competency testing.
- Ability to multitask and work independently with limited supervision.
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA requirements.
- Comfort with computer-based workflows.
- Familiarity with acute care medical records and hospital regulatory environment.
Preferred qualifications:
- RHIT license.
- Associate Degree.
- Experience with EPIC EHR and/or Hyland On Base scanning application.
