The Health Information Technician plays a crucial role in managing and organizing health information data. This position involves ensuring the accuracy, accessibility, and security of patient records while complying with legal and ethical standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology and experience in medical office settings.
Duties include maintaining and managing patient health records to ensure they are accurate and up-to-date, utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems to input, retrieve, and analyze patient data, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations regarding patient confidentiality and data protection, collaborating with healthcare professionals to facilitate information flow between departments, assisting in coding diagnoses and procedures for billing purposes, conducting regular audits of medical records for quality control and adherence to standards, and providing support in training staff on documentation practices and health information systems use.
Experience required includes proficiency in medical terminology, previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting, familiarity with medical records management systems, strong organizational skills and attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals while maintaining confidentiality.
Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED (required), an Associates Degree in Health Information Technology (preferred), certification as a registered health information technician by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) (preferred), and at least 1 year of HIM experience (preferred).
