Coding Quality Assurance Specialist I

We’re searching for a Coding Quality Assurance Specialist I - someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will assign and audit the accuracy of the ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to ambulatory, emergency center, observation, and day surgery records for purposes of billing, research, and providing information to government and regulatory agencies. The position also ascertains the accuracy of the physicians' E/M and procedure coding, completes the auditing reporting tool, and provides this feedback to the education team and/or provider.

You will assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, review documentation in records to assign ICD-10-CM, PCS, and CPT codes, communicate and provide feedback to the education team and/or provider, utilize encoder or coding books to correctly assign codes, sequence diagnosis and procedures to generate DRGs for billing according to coding guidelines, query physicians to clarify records for accurate coding, use resources like Diagnostic Imaging system, Lab system, Emergency Center system, Cardiac Cath system, Epic, and coding reference books, input codes into Epic computer system using the Encoder, complete abstracts if appropriate, identify and assist in correction of problem accounts, participate in education, maintain certification, and maintain concurrent coding for all records.

Required qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, certification such as LCCA, CCS, CCS-P, CIPC, COC, CPC, CRC, RHIA, RHIT, and at least 1 year of coding experience.

  • Certifications such as LCCA (Certified Coding Associate), CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist - Physician Based), CIPC (Certified Inpatient Coder), COC (Certified Outpatient Coder), COC-A (Certified Outpatient Coder - Apprentice), CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CPC-A (Certified Professional Coder - Apprentice), CRC (Certified Risk Adjustment Coder), RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator), RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician)
  • Minimum 1 year experience as a coder
