The Revenue Cycle Specialist manages the complete billing and collections workflow in a dental practice, covering insurance verification, charge entry, claims submission, payment posting, denial resolution, patient billing, and account reconciliation. The role works closely with the Revenue Cycle Manager and clinical teams to maintain clean accounts receivable, minimize claim denials, and provide clear financial communication to patients, ensuring HIPAA compliance.
Responsibilities include:
- Verify patient insurance eligibility, coverage details, and pre-authorizations.
- Assign correct CDT codes and perform detailed charge reviews.
- Submit electronic claim batches daily and reconcile rejected claims promptly.
- Track unpaid claims, follow up based on aging, and escalate as needed.
- Manage denial review and appeals, maintaining low denial rates.
- Post insurance and patient payments accurately and reconcile accounts.
- Generate patient statements, follow up on balances, and escalate collection steps.
- Produce A/R aging reports and contribute to key performance indicator tracking.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; Associate's degree or certification in dental/medical billing or healthcare administration preferred.
- 1-2 years experience in dental or medical billing, revenue cycle, or related healthcare financial role.
- Proficiency in dental practice management software and CDT coding.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and insurance claim processes.
- Strong detail orientation, communication skills, and ability to manage workload efficiently.
