Health Information Management Technician

The Health Information Management (HIM) Technician ensures the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of patient health records to support coding, reimbursement, physician chart completion, and regulatory compliance. Key responsibilities include managing chart deficiency workflows, processing unbilled accounts, maintaining electronic health record (EHR) systems, overseeing suspension processes for delinquent records, monitoring delinquency statistics, performing mandated registry reporting (e.g., tumor registry, Master Patient Index reconciliation), assisting with operational reports and quality improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, and facility policies. The role requires strong organizational skills, proficiency in EHR systems, and ability to handle sensitive patient information confidentially.

Qualifications:

  • 0-1 years experience in health information management, medical records, or healthcare clerical support
  • Preferred experience with document scanning, indexing, or electronic medical records (EMR) systems
  • Knowledge of medical record workflows, documentation requirements, and regulatory compliance
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Certifications:

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
Requirements & Qualifications
  • 0-1 years of experience in health information management or related healthcare clerical support
  • Understanding of chart deficiency processes, provider suspension workflows, and unbilled management
  • Proficiency with EHR systems and document management platforms
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to analyze and interpret health information management reports
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling patient data
  • RHIT or RHIA certification preferred
