As a Health Information Management Technician 1, you will review diagnostic and therapeutic medical records for completeness, accuracy, and to reflect current and future treatment needs. Ensure records comply with accreditation, research, and legal requirements. Supervise and perform coding of diseases, diagnoses, operations, and procedures. Participate in committees concerned with policies and procedures governing medical records. Assist facility staff in resolving issues with proper medical records maintenance and use. Train staff in the goals and procedures of the Health Information Management program. When necessary, work on wards, units, clinics, and other locations in the facility or community where treatment services are provided. Supervision of lower level staff may be required.
Minimum qualifications: Must be currently certified by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). Positions may require additional credentials or a background check to verify identity. This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS), allowing non-competitive appointment initially, with later conversion to competitive status.
You must be currently certified as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) by the American Health Information Management Association. Additional credentials or background checks may be required for some positions. Candidates must meet minimum qualifications for the title. Knowledge of medical record review, coding, and maintenance procedures is essential.
