Respiratory Care Practitioner II

As a Respiratory Care Practitioner II at St. Francis Downtown, you will provide respiratory care through patient assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation. This includes oxygen and aerosolized medication delivery, ventilator care, bronchial hygiene therapy, diagnostic services, and patient and staff education. You will monitor patients' responses and make recommendations for therapy adjustments.

Key responsibilities include serving as shift Charge Therapist to manage staffing, assisting with procedures like bronchoscopy and intubation, performing CPR per AHA ACLS protocols, executing therapeutic airway maintenance procedures, managing mechanical ventilators, and conducting pulmonary function tests. You will serve as a preceptor for new team members and students, assess patient status, administer treatments according to physician orders, instruct patients and families on respiratory therapies, procure sputum samples, evaluate lab results, perform arterial blood gas procedures, maintain respiratory therapy equipment, and respond to cardio-pulmonary resuscitations.

This role requires a minimum of two years' experience as a Respiratory Care Professional, current Respiratory Care License in the practicing state, NBRC credential, BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications. Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor's degree related to respiratory therapy or healthcare, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), and specialized certifications such as CPFT, RPFT, NRP, and ACCS.

Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and customer service skills are essential. Knowledge of non-invasive respiratory therapy equipment, therapeutic respiratory procedures, EKG, arterial blood gas testing, patient assessment, and education are required.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Current Respiratory Care License in practicing state (required)
  • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credential (required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - American Heart Association (required)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification - American Heart Association or Red Cross (required)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification - American Heart Association (required)
  • Minimum two years experience as a Respiratory Care Professional (required)
  • Bachelor's degree related to Respiratory Therapy, Healthcare, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration (preferred)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) (preferred)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (preferred)
  • Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) and Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) (preferred)
  • Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) certification - NBRC (preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license (if required for home care/DME)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of non-invasive respiratory therapy equipment
  • Experience with therapeutic respiratory procedures
  • Understanding of EKG, arterial blood gas analysis, patient assessment and education
