The General Anesthesiologist will provide anesthetics at two hospital locations and four ambulatory surgery centers in the Hickory division. Responsibilities include conducting patient evaluations, examinations, and medical histories to develop an anesthetic plan. The physician will work with patients and supervise certified registered nurse anesthetists to ensure safe care with optimal outcomes. Various anesthesia techniques, including strong regional anesthesia, will be used during outpatient procedures and surgeries with adjustments as necessary.
Cardiac cases may include CABGs and valves, with involvement in a busy TAVR program alongside heart surgeons and cardiologists.
Duties include administering general and regional anesthetics, maintaining and adjusting anesthesia before, during, and after procedures, maintaining patient records, ordering diagnostic tests, performing venous and arterial punctures, providing post-anesthesia care, mechanical ventilation, airway management, supervising nurse anesthetists and anesthesiology interns, residents, and fellows, and reacting appropriately to adverse reactions and complications.
Qualifications:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school
- Board certification or eligibility (BC/BE) in anesthesiology
- Strong regional anesthesia skills; fellowship not required
- North Carolina state medical license
- Minimum 3+ years of experience providing anesthetics in a high-acuity or similar setting
