Health Information Coordinator 1, 2, or 3

DOC-Elayn Hunt Correctional Center

At the Louisiana Department of Corrections, the Health Information Coordinator supports the Assistant Director of Medical Services and the Medical Director by ensuring accurate, secure, and efficient management of health records and clinical information within a correctional healthcare setting.

Key duties include maintaining confidentiality and security of health information in compliance with regulations, performing medical record and administrative support functions, assisting healthcare staff with health records management, overseeing medical document intake and classification, managing release of medical information to authorized parties, preparing correspondence and reports for medical leadership, and coordinating communication workflows for the Medical and Mental Health Departments.

This position involves working in a 24-hour correctional facility and requires strict adherence to privacy and security standards related to health information management.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • One year of experience in administrative services; OR one year of training or completion of a business or clerical-related curriculum from a business school or technical institute.
  • Experience substitution allowed: every 30 semester hours from an accredited college or university equals one year of experience.
  • Permanent status as a Louisiana Department of Corrections employee required for promotional eligibility.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with federal, state, and departmental regulations.
  • Strong organizational and independent judgment skills.
  • Authorization to contact prior employers under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).
