The Team Lead Blood Operations is accountable for the on-time delivery of work for themselves and their team, directly coaching and overseeing assigned staff during the day. This role is a subject matter expert in phlebotomy, blood product collection, and compliance requirements, focusing on quality assurance of team deliverables and enhancing existing services. The lead fosters a collaborative spirit, monitors team progress against objectives, troubleshoots issues, and makes informed decisions to achieve organizational goals.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading donor collection team and addressing issues
- Providing excellent customer service to donors
- Building relationships with donors and sponsors
- Training and mentoring team members
- Preparing collection site, including technology setup and quality control
- Performing donor screening and mini-physical
- Performing phlebotomy and operating automation equipment (Alyx and/or Trima)
- Observing donors for reactions and managing donor safety
- Rebooking donors for future appointments
- Transporting staff, supplies, and operating mobile drive buses as needed
- Leading drive setup and ensuring a safe environment
- Achieving team automation goals including donor recruitment
- Maintaining product integrity and departmental records
- Performing equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
- Reviewing quality results and conducting root cause analysis
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 3+ years phlebotomy experience preferred
- Combination of healthcare degree and certification required
- 4-6 years related experience typically required
- Strong problem-solving skills and good judgment
- Ability to interpret SOPs, safety rules, and operating instructions
- Basic math aptitude
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to learn and utilize computer applications such as Ceridian, Hemasphere, Oracle, and HemaTerra
