The Dental Billing Specialist supports the College of Dental Medicine billing team with payor reimbursement, accounts receivable, denial management, claim resolution, and account maintenance. This role works with patients, payers, faculty, residents, staff, and students to resolve account issues, improve collections, and ensure accurate billing and coding processes. The position also provides customer service, maintains confidentiality, and helps improve departmental efficiency through process improvements.
Minimum requirements
- High school diploma
- 3 years of professional experience in a related area such as accounting, auditing, finance, or commercial lending
- A bachelor's degree with multiple accounting courses may substitute for 2 years of required experience
Key skills and responsibilities
- Billing and coding experience in a dental or healthcare setting
- Accounts receivable and denial management experience
- Ability to post and allocate payments, remits, and EOBs
- Experience with claim review, corrections, resubmissions, appeals, and refunds
- Ability to audit claims and EHR documentation for accuracy and compliance
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Computer literacy
- Ability to maintain HIPAA confidentiality
