The Release of Information (ROI) Specialist I in the VitalChart department of VRC Companies, LLC is responsible for processing assigned requests for medical records in a timely and efficient manner while maintaining accuracy and high-quality service to healthcare clients.
This role safeguards patient privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to medical information and that all release of information requests comply with authorization requirements, company and facility policies, and applicable federal and state laws such as HIPAA.
The position also works closely with the ROI Area Manager and/or ROI Team Leader to communicate concerns related to quality, connectivity, client issues, requestor issues, and service expectations. Professional, respectful interactions are expected at all times.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; degree preferred
- Prior experience with ROI fulfillment preferred
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and meet deadlines
- Strong documentation and communication skills
- Ability to maintain productivity and quality standards
- Basic knowledge of medical records and HIPAA preferred
- Prior experience with EHR/EMR platforms preferred
- Prior experience with Windows and Microsoft Office products
- Strong interpersonal skills with team members, clients, and requestors
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office
- Prior experience using printers, computers, fax machines, scanners, and microfilm reader/printers preferred
- Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to stay focused for extended periods
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English
- Bilingual skills are desirable
