The Release of Information (ROI) Specialist I within the VitalChart department of VRC Companies, LLC is responsible for processing assigned requests for medical records in a timely and efficient manner while maintaining accuracy and high-quality service to healthcare clients.
This role safeguards patient privacy by ensuring only authorized individuals access medical information and that all release of information requests comply with authorization requirements, VRC and healthcare facility policies, and applicable federal and state laws, including HIPAA. The position also requires consistent productivity, professionalism, and effective communication with internal leaders, clients, and requestors.
Key responsibilities include processing ROI requests, validating authorizations, classifying request types, logging requests in ROI software, retrieving and uploading medical records, performing quality control checks, handling invoicing adjustments, documenting request activity, responding to inquiries, and maintaining secure handling of confidential information.
The role may involve cross-training on additional request types, supporting backlogs, and working in on-site and/or remote healthcare facility assignments as needed.
High school diploma or GED required; degree preferred.
Preferred qualifications:
- Prior experience with ROI fulfillment
- Basic knowledge of medical records and HIPAA
- Prior experience with EHR/EMR platforms
- Experience using Windows and Microsoft Office products
- Familiarity with printers, computers, fax machines, scanners, and microfilm reader/printers
